Herndon straddles two eras: the historic downtown with its older homes on established grades, and the neighborhoods that grew up around the tech corridor with their modern subdivisions and engineered lots. Both eras produce wall projects — the older homes need failing walls replaced, the newer ones need slopes terraced into usable yards.
Replacing Aging Walls
Herndon's older neighborhoods hold a generation of timber and early block walls built before drainage was standard. They are leaning now, or bowing, or shedding their backfill a little more each spring. We tear out and replace these regularly — and the replacement always includes what the original lacked: drainage stone, perforated pipe, and footings below the frost line.
Newer Subdivision Slopes
The subdivisions around the tech corridor often left homeowners with steep graded slopes — buildable lots, but barely usable yards. Terracing turns those slopes into level space, and segmental block is the workhorse material: good looks, fair price, and the flexibility to handle our clay. We also build the garden and seating walls that finish these yards.
Small Lots, Smart Sequencing
Many Herndon lots are compact, which means staging and access take planning — materials arrive just in time, equipment routes are mapped, and neighboring properties are protected. We sort all of it during the site visit so construction week runs clean.
